The Synod of Dort was held in 1618-19 to clarify controversial challenges to the doctrine of salvation. In these Canons, we have answers to questions such as: why did he plan it? how did he accomplish it? how does he apply it? does he preserve it?
The burden of the Canons of Dort is to defend the greatness of God in his work of salvation: his sovereignty, the effectiveness of the work of the Son and the Spirit, and his amazing grace. God redeems us by his grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone to his glory alone.
